EMIL MICHAEL KLEIN
JANUARY 17 - FEBRUARY 17, 2023
Galleria Federico Vavassori is pleased to present Emil Michael Klein’s fifth solo exhibition at the gallery.
The exhibition consists of new oil paintings in various sizes and formats.
The works take up a process already developed in Klein’s recent series of abstract paintings. Earlier works often form the starting point for new compositions in which form and style are adapted and changed.
What is new in this series is that the paintings are made from the palette. Klein mixes the paint on the palette table instead of using pre-made paint from a can or bucket as in the past, like in series such as „Filled in, outlined“. Many of these new paintings are done on unprimed linen or cotton. The canvas material serves as a background, on which he paints in shades of beige to brown. After several layers hues transition to black and metallic, always leaving out the compositional lines. Some lines are blue painted (outlined), while others are overpainted in white.
The works were created in the artist’s studio in Zurich in 2022.
Emil Michael Klein was born in 1982 in Munich, he lives and works in Zurich.
